Do These 3 Things To Drive Safer in the Rain

Spring showers may bring flowers, but they can also lead to slippery roads and unsafe driving conditions. Knowing how wet roads and reduced visibility affects the way your vehicle handles will help you drive safer in rainy conditions.

1. Inspect Your Wiper Blades

Wiper blades only work when they make good contact with the surface of your windshield. Check your wipers for these signs so you can have an unobstructed view when it’s raining:

  • Inspect rubber squeegee for cracks and tears
  • Wiggle the squeegee’s edge to ensure it’s still flexible
  • Make sure the rubber edge is firmly attached to the metal frame
  • Don’t forget to check your rear wiper blade(s)

If you wiper blades aren’t leaving your windshield clear after a single wipe then it’s time for a replacement.

2. Make Sure Your Lights are Functioning Properly

Seeing what’s in front of you is just as important as being seen by other drivers. Check your headlights, taillights, brake lights and turn signals. No matter the weather, you should always turn on your headlights when you are driving.

At Jiffy Lube of Indiana, we check all your exterior lights during our Signature Service Oil Change. We also provide headlight cleaning services if your headlights have reduced visibility due to yellowness or cloudiness.

3. Check Your Tire Tread

Your vehicle gains traction when the rubber from the tire tread makes contact with the asphalt. Blading tires or tires that are wearing unevenly could lose their grip with the road in the rain, resulting in hydroplaning or losing control temporarily.

Director of Operations, Rodney Brown, shares some warning signs that your tires need to be replaced.

Now through May 31, 2021, we are offering free tire installation when you purchase your tires online at https://tires.jiffylubeindiana.com

BONUS TIP: Those pesky potholes are even more difficult to spot when puddles begin to form. To avoid potholes, never drive through standing water. Keep this quick checklist on hand for when you hit an unavoidable pothole and you think your vehicle might have damage.
