6 Things to Do Before Bad Weather Hits

6 Things to Do Before Bad Weather Hits | Jiffy Lube of Indiana

Not to be a Debbie Downer, but we’re going to go ahead and say it. Winter is coming, whether we like it or not.

Don’t get caught unprepared during the inevitable frigid temperatures. Here are a few tips to keep you safe and prepare your vehicle for winter weather.

Make An Emergency Kit
Pull together some things now that will give you peace of mind later. A couple of water bottles, blankets, non-perishable food, flashlights, jumper cables and a first aid kit are essential to store in your vehicle. You probably already have most of these things in your house.

Check Your Spare
What’s worse than getting a flat tire in the dead of winter? Getting a flat tire and then realizing that your spare is flat as well. Check the tire pressure of your spare now and save yourself a headache later.

Windshield Wipers
Inspect your wipers for any cracks. Replace them now before things get too cold and rainy.

Tires
Look for any uneven wear on the tread or bumps and bulges in the side wall. Also check to see if the small horizontal bridges between the grooves of your tires have become closer to flush with the tire treads. If you note any of these signs, bring your vehicle in to rotate or replace your tires.

Get Your Oil Changed
As we’ve said before, too many problems and breakdowns are caused by poor oil habits. Changing your oil on a regular basis is a relatively easy and inexpensive way to
help extended the life for your vehicle.

Buy the Ice/Snow Essentials
It never fails that the minute the first bad snow or ice storm is announced, everyone makes a run to the local hardware and buys up all the salt and shovels to be had. Put the essentials on your shopping list for next trip to the store.
