The condition of your wiper blades is something no one has time to think about until–all of a sudden–you can’t see.
After enough wear, any wiper blade will start to crack and become brittle. When your windshield wipers deteriorate or get damaged, they pose a safety hazard to you, your passengers, and other vehicles. Harsh weather conditions and environmental factors such as ice or road salt can cause that deterioration to happen even more quickly.
When compared to other vehicle parts, wiper blades are relatively inexpensive. A good rule of thumb is to change them every two years. But when it doubt, change them whenever you suspect there’s an issue.
Streaks on the glass, a squeaking noise, or chattering when the wiper passes are common signs that you need a change. However, if you’re not sure if your blades have deteriorated or if maybe the blades are just dirty, check for these signs and catch a problem before it starts. If there is a wiper blade on your back window, don’t forget to check there as well!

— Squeegee edge is not still flexible when wiggled
— Metal frame has corrosion or loose joint connections
— Rubber edge in not firmly attached to the metal frame
