Automatic transmission fluid lubricates, cools and cleans internal components of the transmission. It also helps to maintain the hydraulic pressure necessary for the transmission to function. The additives in the transmission fluid can be depleted over time. The automatic transmission filter helps remove dirt and contaminants from the automatic transmission fluid.
You should regularly flush the transmission fluid every 20 to 40 thousand miles. But be careful. If you haven’t done it for a long time you should check with a qualified technician before hand. If you have neglected this service the transmission can develop scale deposits and flushing the fluid can introduce fresh new detergents that will cause this scale to break away and damage components and plates. That’s one reason Jiffy Lube of Indiana believes it is important to stay on schedule and have the service performed at the right time.
