A dirty engine can significantly decrease the efficiency of your vehicle. A dirty engine runs hotter than a clean one, which puts a bigger strain on your vehicle. Also, if you periodically clean your engine, it will be easier to spot leaks and diagnose problems.
Here are some tips to keep your engine clean and your travels efficient:
- Wash your engine professionally or by yourself at least once a year.
- Before you clean, protect sensitive components under your hood: electrical parts/connections, distributor, and air intake. Cover them with plastic bags.
- Use a bristle brush to scrub the surface of your engine and engine components with grease-cutting detergent or dishwashing soap.
- Rinse all scrubbed surfaces thoroughly.
Cleaning your engine often will keep your vehicle on the road longer and keep your engine running as efficient as possible.
